Older, crotchety fanboy who thinks he might be able to write. Professionally, I’m an emergency preparedness instructor. I was a volunteer Lt FF/EMT for about 15 years (retired). I’ve been the Programming Director for a few conventions, helped out in several other positions, and been attending cons for over twenty years. I’m also interested in genealogy, single malt, movies, and good books. I am a staunch and unapologetic Atheist with a capital “A.”

Religions (all of them) are a curse upon mankind. They are a carbuncle on the ass of humanity that should have been lanced ages ago. As an institution, they have far outlived their usefulness. The nemesis of religion is to teach our youth critical thinking, logic, and reason. It is not about teaching them what to think. It is about teaching them how to think for themselves. Dogma can best be overcome by questioning everything. Science and knowledge can not only withstand scrutiny, they become stronger for it. Mysticism, ignorance, and faith shrivel under analysis like the last wisps of fog on a sunny summer morning.

If you want an opinion, just ask, but requests may or may not fall on deaf ears. Just be prepared for a real answer. No, that does not mean that I am always right. It does mean that I can make up my own mind. I refuse to waffle my way through life. It is the only one that I have, it ends when I turn up dead, and I would rather not waste any more of it than I already have (which means emphatically that, yes, I did inhale).
